ASHBURTON CLUB OPENED

MAYOR PERFORMS CEREMONY Though the'weather was cool, there was a good attendance yesterday for the opening of the Ashburton Croquet Club. Mrs D. Heenan, the president, voiced the thanks of members to.the Domain curator, Mr D. H. Leigh, for the excellent order of the greens, and the great work he regularly put into their preparation. The Mayor, Mr E. C. Bathurst, then formally declared the season open, and wished all members a most successful time. Mrs Bathurst played the first ball. Competitions were held subsequently and these were won by Mesdames J. Cleary, Raven, G. Meddins, A. Smith, S. Watson, Kelliher, Palmer and H. T. Thompson.
