CLOUDY AND COOL TO-DAY The sun broke through a partiallyclouded sky at intervals in Ashburton this morning. Temperatures were cool and about 10 o’clock there was a trace of moisture in the atmosphere, the barometer stood at 29.83 inches at the Ashburton Domain this morning, having risen slightly since yesterday, when the figure was 29.63. The maximum temperature yesterday was 52.5 degrees and on the previous day 60.6. The screen mini muni last night was 40.7, compared with 39 2 degrees on Wednesday night. .L ie earth temperature to-day was 48.9 deglThe radar research station supplied the following information to-day: Barometer, 29.67 inches; maximum temperature yesterday, 52.1 degrees; minimum temperature last night, 40 degrees; grass minimum, 38.4, and relative humidity 84 per cent.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: General situation: A depression is moving east across the North Island and a wedge of high pressure is over the South Island.
