MANX FOLK MEET

SOCIAL EVENING AT ASHBURTON Manx folk, their families and their friends held a reunion last evening in the Baring Square Methodist Sunday School and, in spite of atrocious weather conditions, there was an attendance of about 70, including visitors from as far away as Rolleston and from all parts of the county. The feature of the evening was a recital of Manx songs by the Rev.- A. N. Costain, of Rangiora, who has made a close study of the Island songs and introduced each number with appropriate references to the associated history or circumstances. Many of those present joined in the singing of the better-known songs and choruses. Mr Costain also displayed a number of lantern slides of the Isle of Man, and those present had the pleasure of seeing again many of the old and wellknown scenes so familiar to them in past days. An enjoyable supper was served by a committee of young ladies and . a bouquet was presented to Mrs Costain. The Rev. W. T. Blight presided at the gathering, and also played the accompaniments.
