RIOTING IN DACCA
POLICE MEASURES STRENGTHENED (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 27. Police measures have been strengthened at Dacca where Hindu and Moslem clashes since August 20 have resulted in 23 persons.being killed and 65 injured, reports Reuter’s Calcutta correspondent. Barbed-wire barricades have been erected in some streets. . Crowds attacking houses in the Takurhat area used bows and arrows. A civilian fired a gun as the result of which one person was killed and 25 injured. The District Magistrate warned that collective fines would be imposed if the attacks continue. Anyone committing a murderous assault or indulging in looting was liable to be shot by the police.
