MISPLACED SUITCASE RECOVERED
CONTENTS VALUED AT MORE THAN £2OO (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 26. The story of the recovery of a missing suitcase containing articles valued at more than £2OO was outlined by the Superintendent of Police (Mr H, Scott) this afternoon. > A woman who had been staying at a private hotel in Christchurch left by car for Dunedin on Saturday, and found on her arrival at Dunedin that the suitcase was missing from the rest of her luggage. The Dunedin polifce notified Christchurch by telephone. Inquiries disclosed that the hotel porter was positive that the suitcase had been with the rest of the luggage. It was also clear that the suitcase could not have been removed during the car’s one stop on the southward trip, as the car had been left locked. After extensive inquiries by Detective G. W. Alty, the suitcase was located intact at the Christchurch railway station yesterday. By some means it had apparently been put by .mistake into a taxi outside the hotel. The taxi-driver had deposited the suitcase with his other luggage at the station, and his fare had simply picked up. his own luggage and left the suitcase where it was.
