EALING FUNCTION

RETURNED MEN WELCOMED Residents of Ealing and the surrounding districts met in the Library Hall to extend a hearty welcome to L.A.C.I Brian Clement and Driver N. B. Carney who recently returned from overseas. Making the presentation of a gold medal to L.A.C. Clement on behalf, of the Ealing Soldiers’ Presentation Committee, Mr Hi C. a B. Withell (Chairman) thanked him for his services overeas, and wished him every success on his return to civil life. A telegram from Driver Carney was read, conveying an apology for his unavoidable absence. A gold medal and woollen comforts will be forwarded him." Mr J. C. Guinness, on behalf of the R.S.A., congratulated both men on their safe return, and expressed the wish that they would soon be happily rehabilitated.

Miss Phyllis Withell presented the guest of the evening with a pair of socks from the Women’s Institute and a pullover from the Ladies’ Patriotic Guild. Mrs Giddings presented Mrs E. Clement with a shoulder spray and Mr Clement with a button-hole. As this function marks the end of the work of the Soldiers’ Presentation Committee, the chairnian thanked the members of the committee and the residents of the district for their loyal support. He also thanked the members of the Red Cross, the Women’s 'lnstitute and the Ladies’ Patriotic Guild, paying special thanks to the secretary of the Presentation Committee, Mr K, J. Mackenzie, and the secretary of the Red Cross, Mrs W. Gicldings. Mr A. Donaldson eulogised the work of' Mr Withell as chairman, and a vote of thanks was carried with applause, followed by musical honours. Kelland’s Orchestra supplied music for the dancing, extras being played by Miss Ambler and Mr J. Horsburgh, while Miss Kelly contributed an enjoyable vocal solo, the accompaniment being played by Miss H. Galletly. Mr R. Good was master of ceremonies.
