FALSE RETURNS OF INCOME
AUCKLAND JEWELLER FINED * TOTAL OF £250 (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 14. Admitting four charges of wilfully making false income returns, Arthur Gordon Taylor, a jeweller, was fined a total of £250 at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. .The prosecution stated that investigations revealed dealings in jewellery aiid currency, i investments in house} properties and fiats, Government loans, a share in a yacht, and a racehorse which had since been sold. Defendant claimed that a large part of his available cash came from winnings at races, which added very materially to his financial resources. Mr J. E. Molding, S.M., said he did not believe the excuse that defendant had derived his profits from gambling and, in any case, he should have kept a record of the transactions; The Magistrate imposed fines of £75 on each of two charges relating to the years 1943 and 1944, and £SO on those concerning 1942 and 1945.
