BOXING.
PATRICK COMING TO N.Z. (P.A.) Wellington, This Day. Vic Patrick, lightweight and welterweight boxing champion of Australia, is coming to New Zealand in March under the auspices of the Hutt Valley Boxing Association, and will meet Bos Murphy and one other opponent, not yet selected. The purse for each fight will run into three figures, and will be the highest ever granted by the New Zealand Boxing Council. Vie Caltaux, at present in Australia, has also contracted with the Association to return to New Zealand to defend his welter-weight title against Murphy. This bout will be staged at the Petone recreation grounds next month. Both Patrick’s bouts will be open-air matches, and will be held in the Hutt Valley The chairman of the Hutt Association, Mr L. Stewart, who returned from Australia by air on Saturday, said he had seen Patrick and was very impressed. “He is a really great boxer,’’ he said, “but I think lie will know he has been fighting after he meets Murphy.”
