CHRISTMAS MAILS

Eight extra men commenced work in the mail-room at the ' Ashburton Post Office to-day to help cope with the Christmas rush, which is approaching its peak. Four men assist the postmen and the one remaining postwoman on the staff in the delivery ,oi‘ mails, while the others are sorting. A very heavy day was experienced on Monday and again yesterday. The postal staff has been working from 6.30 a.m., and rounds are not completed until late in the afternoon in many cases. An official this morning referred to the large number of Christmas' cards being sent this year.
