MAORI BATTALION

PLANS FOR WELCOME HOME (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Preparations are being made for a national welcome to the Maori Battalion, which is expected to arrive in Wellington between January 26 and 28. Tribal welcomes will be given afterwards in various districts. The plans provide for a short ceremonial parade through the city, followed by a welcome by the Acting-Prime Minister, and a Maori welcome and feast in the large wharf sheds. There will be a hui on the East Coast at the end of January under the direction of Sir Apirana Ngata, and the Ngapuhi have invited the Defence Minister (tire Hon. F. Jones) to attend their ceremony at Kaikohe. The Arawa and other tribes are arranging functions. Almost every Kainga will conduct a welcome for some members.
