WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
MEETING AT ALLENTON. PATRIOTIC WORK TO PROCEED. Following an address by the chairman of the Ashburton Patriotic Committee (Dr. J. Connor) urging that the collection of patriotic funds be gone ahead with, the Allenton Women’s Institute yesterday decided to carry on with the arrangements for a street day on September 14. A card afternoon in aid of stall funds was arranged for September 6. It was reported that members had Invested £146 in National Savings. Competitions resulted: Small bloom, Mrs Hale 1; truss, Mrs McElhinney J.; Posy bowl Mrs Greaves 1, Mrs Hale 2,' Mrs Hawke 3; worked apron, Miss R .Douglas 1, Mrs Magson 2. Mrs Noble and Airs Hale equal 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Paul, Hale and McElhinney.
