SOWING OF SPRING WHEAT. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. Owing to the serious position that had arisen in Canterbury over the autumn sowing of wheat and in an attempt to rectify it, would the Minister of Supply give to farmers prepared to take the risk of sowing spring wheat a price that would give a return equal to that offered by peas, linseed and other crops? asked Mr W. H. Gillespie (Opposition, Hurunui) in a notice of question in the House to-day. Associated with Mr Gillespie were Messrs R. G. Gerard Mid-Canterbury), J. Acland (Temuka) and D. C. Kidd (Waltaki). It was stated by Mr Gillespie that there were many indications that farmers on light land would be prepared to take the risk of spring sowing in the national interest if assured of a price commensurate with other crops.
