SCHOOL YEAR ENDS.

BREAK-UP AT RUAPUNA. The break-up of the Ruapuna School was held in the hall. There was an excellent attendance of parents and The children entertained with plays and songs. Mr R. W. Holland presided, and Mrs Holland presented the prizes. Each child received a book. Prizes for sewing were awarded as follow:—Std. 6: Joy Oakley. Std. 4: Dawn Oakley. Std. 3: Helen Bennett. Std. 2: Ida Oakley. Std. 1: Betty Conway. Primers: Shirley Holland. Tiny Tots: Ansley Arnold and Janet McKeown. The special prize for the mest improved sewer went to Shirley Holland.

Joy Oakley presented Mr Arnold (head teacher) with a gift from the children. Valery Cliinu presented Mrs J. Sowell (sewing mistress) with a gift in appreciation of her work and Maureen Moore presented Mrs Arnold with a posy of roses. Afternoon tea was served.

FLEMINGTON BREAK-UP

Many parents and friends were present at the break-up and display of work of the Flemington School held on Thursday afternoon. Songs, versespeaking, plays and individual items were presented by the children. Father Christmas distributed toys and hooks.

The chairman of the School Committee (Mr C. W. Anderson) who presided congratulated Mr L. A. Heyward and the children on the success of the year’s work. lie also thanked those whose financial assistance had made it possible to hold a picnic and provide good things for the children on the same scale as previous years.

Prizes were presented by Mrs K. Taylor, who also presented Mrs Heyward with a bouquet in appreciation of her interest and help in the school. The prize list is:—

The parade of stock reared for Agricultural Club projects was held in conjunction with the break-up and lambs and calves were judged by Mr T. E. Taylor. Afternoon tea with soft drinks for the children was served by the wives of the school committee.
