OFFICER RETIRES.
MR STEWART, VALUER-GENERAL. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. After 44 years in the Public Service, Mr W. Stewart, the Valuer-General, has retired. He become Valuer-Gen-eral in 1934. Entering the Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, in 1899 as a clerical cadet, he passed the examination for surveyor in 1906.. He became chief draftsman at Christchurch in 1923, and later Avas promoted Commissioner of Crown Lands for Canterbury, which position he held until 1934. i
