POSITION OF MEN ON FURLOUGH ENTERING INTO EMPLOYMENT. INDIVIDUAL CHOICE ALLOWED (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. As far as is humanly possible those members of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force who are permitted to remain in Ne-AV Zealand Avhen the leave draft returns to the Middle East will be given the opportunity of finding their oavii employment and, if they so desire, of returning to their former jobs in civil life. The Minister of ManpoAver (tlie Hon. A. McLagan) made this statement to-day. He emphasised that the manpoAver officers had been instructed to use the utmost discretion and tact in handling the question. Wherever possible no obstacle Avould be placed in tlie AA’ay of a man avlio Wished to take up his former civil occupation and similarly officers bad been instructed to be most careful about interfering Avit.li the efforts of men who wished to seek employment for themselves. There Avas definitely no Avish or intention to restrict Avithin narrow limits the choice of jobs which the men could take.
Naturally the men would receive the ruling rates of pay in the industry in which they found, or Avere found, Avork, the Minister added.
