FURLOUGH APPEALS.
CIVILIAN HEARING DISLIKED. (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 10. The Auckland Returned Services’ Association yesterday sent the folloAVing telegram to Dominion headquarters, Wellington: “Appeals against further overseas service by furlough men are to he heard in a few days by the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board consisting of civilians. We request, you to press the Minister to appoint at once special boards comprising returned men of the last Avar, or this war, or both, to hear these appeals. We suggest special use be made of Mr Cyril Sneddon, at present, on the No. 2 board.” The president (Mr A. P. Postlewaite), in a statement, said several mei} who intended to appeal liad raised strong objections to having their cases heard by appeal board members who had not seen active service and could not therefore deal with cases from the point of vieAV of personal knowledge of warfare. Mr Postlewaite considered no person who had not himself served his country overseas should be placed in the position of saying whether a man avlio had returned should again be sent overseas on active service.
