FAREWELL SOCIAL.

MR AND MRS T. J. CAMERON. There was a large gathering of employees of the Ashburton Railway Station and friends of the* guests when Mr and Mrs T. J. Cameron were farewelled in the Orange Hall on Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs Cameron have retired to Timaru, Mr Cameron having completed 40 years’ service with, the Railway Department. Presenting Mr Cameron with a chiming-clock, on behalf of the business people of Ashburton, Mr J. B. Cullen paid a tribute to the prompt and efficient service always given by the railways, especially in connection with transport. A mounted barometer was presented to Mr Cameron by Mr J. Reid, who spoke on behalf of the clerical staff of tho railway station. He commented on Mr Cameron’s 40 years’ service with the .Department, the last five years of which had been spent at Ashburton. He remarked that Mr Cameron was a champion bowler as well as a champion stationmaster. Other speakers were Messrs T. Moody (maintenance staff), R. Mayne (car and waggon staff) and A. Lennon (outside staff). In "his reply Mr Cameron said he had made many fast friends in Ashburtofi, and hoped to keep them after he had left the district. He had always tried to maintain the balance of justice between department and employees. Miss Wendy Cox presented Mrs Cameron with a bouquet. Two musical dialogues \vere given by Miss M. Leask. accompanied by lvir H, Childs, and two vocal solos were sung by Mrs J. Reid. Music for dancing was supplied by Mesdames W. Owen and B. E. Tyson.
