WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

MEETINC AT METHVEN. The motto for the day at the July meeting of the Methven Women’s Institute was read by Mrs E. A. Mangin. A word-building competition was won by Mrs A. H. Guthrie with Mrs R. Ireland second. Mrs Regan handed in a number ed peggy squares and it was decided to hand these over to the Junior Red Cross. The roll call, “Home Remedies/ 5 was well responded to. In competitions during the year Mesdames Walker and Chambers tied with an equal number of entries and each were the recipient of gifts from members. It was decided to hold a group meeting on August <ls. Mrs D. Watson gave a demonstration, of spinning. Members wore asked to bring to the next meeting flour-hags and leather boot laces to be handed over to the comforts fund. Competitions, judged by Mosdamcs Edwards ' and Tempero, resulted:— Bloom, Mrs Vaughan 1, Mrs Burrows 2, Mrs R. Ireland 3; truss or spike, Mrs Burrows 1, Mrs Walker 2, Mrs Guthrie 3; parsnips, Mrs Burrows I, Mrs Walker 2, Mrs Guthrie 3; pot plants, Mrs Burrows 1. Mrs Walker 2; hand-knitted gloves, .Mrs R. Ireland 1, Mrs Burrows 2, Mrs Walker 3; prettiest duchesse sot, Mrs J. M. Dolan 1, Mrs Burrows 2, Miss D. Adams 3. Vocal solos were sung by Mrs Tempero, who was accompanied by Miss Pringle. Mrs A. Adams was accompanist for community singing. The hostesses were Mosdames Crooks, Olecvo, Fitzgibhon, and Miss D. Adams.
