A Middle East air communique states: “In a daylight attack on the harbour of Messina yesterday by heavy American bombers hits were scored on the ferry terminus installations and fires were started in the railway yards south of the terminus. At the same time another formation of American heavy bombers raided the docks at Naples, their bombs scoringdirect bits, on the targets. During these operations at least four enemy fighters which attempted to interfere were shot down. One of ours is missing.— British Official Wireless.
