DAIRY INDUSTRY.
SUBSIDY IN AUSTRALIA. (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright). CANBERRA, October 7. The Australian Federal Cabinet has decided to grant a subsidy of £2,000,000 a year to the Australian dairy industry, according to an announcement made in the House of Representatives by the Prime Minister (Mr J. Curtin). For some time the dairy industry has been suffering considerable difficulty owing to the shortage of manpower, due to military callups and tho higher wages offering in munition factories. The subsidy will be allocated by the Tariff Board with the object of ensuring adequate supplies for the armed forces, the civilian population and the people of Britain, and also of providing adequate living for farmers and their employees.
