BOROUGH SCHOOL.

ATTENDANCES VERY LOW. Attendances were still being greatly affected by sickness, and the numbers were much below those- for the corresponding periods in previous years, icported the headmaster (Mr M. J. Leith) at tho meeting of the Ashburton Borough School Committee last evening. The present roll number was 462, and the average roll number for the month was 463:6. The average attendance for the month had been 383.4, tw 82.4 per cent, of the roll number. In view of the excellent report received from the inspector, the Committee decided to congratulate the staff on the work they had done during the year.

Mr B. Dobbie, reporting for the Visiting Committee, said that in spite of representations to the Education Board about the pool of stormwater near the rear entrance of the school nothing had been done to rectify matters and the water continued to be a nuisance. •

As the shortage of cement has been partially alleviated, it was decided to institute further inquiries regarding the construction of a swimming pool at the school.
