FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” Oct. 8, 1892.) Rakaia Sale-yards Company. A general meeting of shareholders of the Rakaia Saleyards Company was held on Thursday in the Town Hall. Mr Str-achan. (chairman of provisional directors) was in the chair. The subcommittee brought up a report on available sites, articles of association, etc. It was decided to accept tire offer of Seoord’s trustees for eight acres and 11 perches of land on the outskirts of tire township, for . £2-5 per acre. A large number were nominated for the directorate, the result being the election of Messrs Lyttelton, Thomas, Holmes, H. Harrison, T. Morlarrd, J. McOrory, J. Gardiner, E. S ! . Coster, J. Stringfellow, W. Harrison, W. Strachan, W. L. Allsfn and J. Harrison. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” Oct. 8, 1917.) Stock Sale'—There was a large attendance- at the Tinwald yards to-day. Tire yarding of fat sheep aggregated 142, as against-107 \last week, and included 107 ewes, 32 wethers and two hoggets. Prices were exceptionally firm throughout, and competition was keen. Two ewes, owned by Mr G. Spencer (Carew), realised 'the substantial price of »50s ' 9d. The same vendor also disposed of five wether’s at 50s 9d. The yarding of store sheep aggregated 1917, as against 1838 last week, and included 349 uetlrers, the balance being chiefly ewes in lamb or with larirbs at foot. Mr A. Read (Eiffelton) secured 47s 9d for > line of 141 four* and six-tooth half arid threoquarterbred forward wethers, which were sold to a Waimate buyer.
