CONSTRUCTION IN AMERICA. STATEMENT BY MR KAISER. (Ree. 10.5) SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 6 ; It is reported from Oakland (California) that Mr Kaiser announced that ihe‘ is launching; the first 3500-ton “secret tank-landing ship/’ prefabiir cated inland and requiring only halt of the quantity of steel used in Liberty ships. Mr Kaiser, in a statement, “They said it could not be done, but we will be turning out two weekly in the new yard.” Mr Kaiser, who is also constructing three experimental giant cargo ships in addition to the rapid building of Liberty ships, expects the new tank-lander to be fitted out ready for service in 30 days.
