CONTINUOUS ASSAULT.
REGARDLESS OF CASUALTIES. THE JAPANESE IN LUZON'. (Rec. 11.10 a..m.) LONDON, Jan. 23. The Japanese are continuing to launch heavy attacks on Major-General MacArthur’s positions in the Bataan Peninsula of Luzon.
Washington officially reports that during the last 24 hours the fighting has been extremely heavy. The enemy’s assault troops have been strongly reinforced,. nevertheless all the Japanese attacks have been repulsed with heavy losses. Apparently the enemy adopted a policy of continuous assaults without regard to casualties, hoping by great superiority in numbers to crush the de fenders. General MacArthur received a message from General Sir Archibald Wayell warmly congratulating him and his command on the magnificent defence of the Philippines.
