SCOTCH FIRS.
CEMETERY EMBELLISHED. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 5. Stated by the Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop, to be raised from seed from the first Scotch firs planted by the first Duke, of Wellington at Strathficldsaye House, firs designed to add to the embellishment of the new extension of the Soldiers’ Cemetery at Ivarori were planted along the boundary by a distinguished party, each of whom had seen war service. It included General Sir Guy Williams, the Mayor, the Hon. Wj. Perry, M.L.C., Lieut.-Colonel Cowles, Colonel Hutchen (of the War Graves Division of the Internal Affairs Department), Mr Spence (secretary of the Wellington R.S.A.), and the Town Clerk (Mr E. P. Norman). Headed by Sir Guy Williams, each member planted a tree. The party afterwards made a tour of the older soldiers’ • cemeteries, noting many distinguished names.
