WOMEN’S HOCKEY.

MATCHES ON SATURDAY. LOWCLTFFE SENIORS BEAT . METHVEN. « The feature of women’s shoe key in Mid-Canterbury on Saturday was the defeat of Methven at the hands of Loweliffe in the senior competition. Loweliffe won by 5 goals to nil, but the score did not indicate the real quality of the match. It was a very good exhibition of hockey, Loweliffe being superior, especially in the front line, P. standing, while J. Hansen, also of Lowcliffo, was the outstanding player on the held. Aii the Methven team played good hockey, 'honours going to J. Newman and J. Kilwortli, hut as the team played without a goal-keeper, chances of success were impaired. The scorers were: J. Hawke (3), E. Dutton (2). Messrs W. C. Bishop and W. T, Corbett were the umpires. Hinds defeated Ashburton by four goals to two in a very even match. The scorers for Hinds were: J. Davidson (2), N. Davidson, and J. Reddeclilfe one each, while for Ashburton J. Wilson and Gr. Haack scored one each, Mr W. T. Corbett was the umpire. Tinwakl had a runaway victory over Rakaia beating them by eight goals to nil. The scorers were: M. Henderson (4), M. Donaldson (2), S. Chibnall arid E. Proctor one each. Mr K. J. Orams was the referee.

JUNIOR GRADE.

In the junior grade, Rakaia defeated Ashburton by three goals, all shot by D. Johnston, to one, shot by Z. Bradley. Mr W. C. Bishop was the umpire. Technical defeated Hinds by 10 goals to one, the scorers for the winners being B. Skinner (5), V. Rattray (3) and J. Watts (2). J. Lester scored for Hinds. Mr L. J. Honeyman was the umpire. 'Methven beat Wakanui by one goal to nil. The match was very strongly contested and over-anxiousness on the part of the Wakanui team especially spoilt many chances. E. Brown shot the- only goal of the match. Mr G. Johns was the umpire. Trial matches will be held next week for the selection of the Ashbutron team.
