“A FILTHY PRACTICE.”
HOUSEHOLD WASTE IN RACES FARMER TO BE PROSECUTED The action of a County farmer in turning his household waste into a water race was characterised by a member of the Ashburton County Council to-day as a filthy practice and one that would have to be stopped. The Council took a. serious view of tho offence and decided to authorise a prosecution against the farmer. The Health Inspector (Mr J. G. Kirk) reported that he had located a case yrhere household waste was being turned into a water race and he had given the owner seven days in which to cease the offence. A member' of the Council said the owner should not have been given ten minutes. He added that tho turning of household Waste into the races showed that the farmer had no consideration whatever for those on the race below him. It was a practice that might very seriously affect the health of the community. It was stated that the farmer had been watned a -long time ago for the same thing and had lately declared that the Council was persecuting him. The Council decided to take firm action in several other cases where, it was reported, a similar state of affairs existed.
