A motion of sympathy with Mr W. G. Gallagher in his indisposition was carried at the meeting of the Ashburton County Council this morning. The Hon. W. E'. Barnard ((Speaker of the 'House of -Representatives) is gazetted second lieutenant, (temporary) and is posted to the 2nd Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, according to a list of appointments published in the Gazette. The following members of the Board of Health have been appointed for three years, according to last night’s Gazette: The Hon. J. Alexander, Sir James Elliott, Dr. Muriel Emma 8011, and Mr,G. A. Monk. Lieutenant-Colonel L. M. Inglis. M.C., of Timaru, on relinquishing temporary command of the 4th New Zealand Infantry Brigade, is appointed to command the Infantry Training Brigade and is promoted to be brigadier (says a Gazette notice). The appointment of Mr Ri. L. Andrew, F.1.C., as Dominion analyst and director of the Dominion laboratory. has been announced. He is succeeding Mr "\Y. Donovan, who has retired. A native of Thames, Mr Andrew was awarded, a School of Mining scholarship and studied at the Otago School of Mines. He joined the Dominion, laboratory in. 1906. He has published a number of important papers on the analytical chemistry of milk and the relation of iodine to the incidence of goitre in New Zealand which have, earned him wide recognition.
