THE FREEZING WORKS.
TO RE-OPEN NEXT TUESDAY
PROSPECTS ARE VERY GOOD. The Fairton Freezing Works will open for the season next Tuesday and the prospects foil' a good season are very bright. Conditions this summer are vastly different from those Avhieh prevailed at this time a year a go, when lack of rain led to a great shortage of feed, AA’hich compelled farmers to send in many of their lambs only half fattened.
Conditions this year Avere moving toAvard 1 the same state till recently, when Avelcome rain completely changed the outlook, and it is reported that lambs are fattening Avell in most parts of the Cbunty. This will mean, with the plentiful supply of green feed available, that the works Avill not be rushed the start as Avas the _ case last year, ’ Avhen the men Avere killing at top speed for a time and then encountered a period Avhen there Avas very little offering. This year, again, it will be a case of the heavier sheep bringing the higher prices under the meat export arrangements with the British Government.
As far as the labour market for the Avorks is concerned, it Avas stated this morning that there is no indication so far that there Avill be any shortage. A number of men previously employed 1 on the chain killing system have joined up Avith the forces but there are plenty of men still available to carry on the Avork. The works manager (Mr G. M. Breeze) said to-day that he Avas not anticipating any difficulty in filling his requirements of labour.
