SOCIALS TO SOLDIERS.

FAIRTON MEN ENTERTAINED. A very large number of residents attended a social held in the Fairton Hall on Wednesday in honour of Privates A. ‘McCall, H. Gordon, D. Mac Kay, N. Deuart and H. Drennan. Mr P. J. Mowat (chairman of the Patriotic Committee) and Air S. P. Taylor (County Chairman) addressed the gathering. Air Taylor presented each solcji^j - with a wristlet watch from the residents. Private A. AlcCall, on behalf of the soldiers thanked the speakers for their kind messages arid the residents for their gifts. The evening - was spent in dancing and items, music being supplied by Mr Pat Taylor and party, Mr and Airs Chappell, Aliss Chappel and Mrs Gordon. “ Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. PRESENTATION FROM PENDARVES. As Private S. S. Bennett was unable to attend a social in the IPendarves district, a deputation of residents met him and presented him with a gift of money. The presentation was made by Air G. E : . 'Hampton,. TWO LONGBEACH EMPLOYEES.

Two employees of the Longbeach estate were entertained at a happy gathering held in the station cookhouse on Wednesday evening. Mr J. H. Grigg presided and a programme was provided by children of the estate and Alessrs C. Parsons, H. Hawkins and L. Heyward. Choruses were sung, music being provided by Alessrs E. Belcher, H. Hawkins and Aliss R. Gimson.

Presentations to the guests of the evening, Gunner A. Spcedie and Private W. Chaplow, were made by Airs J. H. Grigg, who spoke of the really good wishes that went with them from all at Longbeach. , Gunner Spcedie and Privates AI. Stoddart and IChaplow were the guests of honour at a dance in the Waterton Hall on Tuesday evening. The good wishes of the residents of the district were conveyed by Alessrs G. E. Blee and S. P. Taylor, the latter making a presentation of a fountain pen and a money belt to each of the guests. On behalf of the Eiffelton sub-centre of the Red Cross Mrs J. Cocks presented a parcel of knitwear to each of the soldiers. Air H. H. Hawkins spoke on behalf of the Eiffelton Tennis Club. Alusic for the dance was provided by R. Da bourn’s orchestra.
