Mr W. Service (senior primary school inspector in the Canterbury district) has been in Ashburton for the last two days inspecting schools in the country districts. x
Motions of sympathy with the relatives of the late Dr. G. I. Miller were carried ,iu silence at meetings of the Allenton Women’s Institute, and the Ashburton Rechabite Lodge. The Council of the Ashburton. United Friendly Societies’ Association last <eA r ening carried a similar motion.
Mrs J. T. Smith, who is leaving the district, was entertained at afternoon tea yesterday by members of the Ashburton Croquet Club. The president (Mrs E. Ruddock) presented Mrs Smith with a spray.
Misses I. 0. D'ahlberg, N. Yeoman, ,1. Newton and J. Thomas (Ashburton), J. Andrew (Tinwald) and B. Monrow (Mayfield) will commence a 60-hour course of training at the Ashburton Public Hospital to-morrow. These courses are held under the auspices of the Mid-Canterbury Centre of the Red Cross Society
