MORE RAIN IN ASHBURTON. Ashburton experienced another fall of rain during the night, when there were some heavy showers/ During the 24 hours ended at nine o’clock this morning the fall was 42 points, practically all of which fell in the night. Conditions cleared early this morning, but for the most part the weather remained dull and extremely cold. The sun broke through the clouds at times. Seventy-five points of rain fell at Mayfield during the night, bringing the total for the week to 1.76 inches. The weather was dull and showery there this morning. The Ashburton Domain weather station reports that the barometer read 29.73 inches this morning and the maximum and minimum temperatures for yesterday were 52.6 and 43.3 'degrees.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:—•

General situation: A weak anticyclone is located to the north while pressure is low east of the South Island and in the central Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:

Light to fresh southerly winds, gradually tending to easterly. Some scattered showers to-day on the coast, but weather mainly fair and cool. Seas moderate.
