BASIC RATE SLIGHTLY HIGHER.

The basic wage for married men in the Civil Service is increased under the Public Service Remuneration Order, 1938, Amendment No. 2, which was gazetted to-night. Hitherto the stipulated basic wage for married civil servants was £2lO 8s Id, and this has been increased under the regulation to £230 8s Id per annum. These regulations will affect very few public servants, because most of them receive above the basic wage.
