LIGHTNING DAMAGE.

AMBERLEY POST OFFICE HIT. (Special to the “Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Lightning struck the Amberley Post Office about 10,30 o’clock last night. Considerable damage was done to fuses and other electrical equipment. As a result, telegraphic and telephonic communication between iCliristcliurch and Wellington was lost until about 11.50 p.m., when the alternative route, via Greymouth and S'eddon, was brought into use. In the darkness last night, it was not possible to ascertain the exact damage nor to make repairs, but it was expected that this would be done early this morning.
