OFFENDER FINED.
DRUNK AND DISORDERLY CHARGE. INCIDENT EARLY THIS MORNING. On a charge of being drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner early this morning, Thomas Stanley White, a laliourer, of Cass Street, Ashburton, was convicted and fined £1 when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr W. H. Rundle, J.P. White was allowed a week to pay the fine. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge of being intoxicated, but not guilty to having acted in a disorderly manner. Senior-Sergeant J. F. Cleary said that Constable H. Sayer while in Wills Street had heard accused shouting for his wife. The Traffic Inspector (Mr W. G. Letham) had come out and with the Constable had advised White to goi home. Accused was definitely drunk, and as the other offence was not very serious the case could perhaps he considered, one of drunkenness.
Constable Sayor gave evidence about the actions of accused. He had gone into a neighbour’s residence and knocked on the door and hanged on a fence.
Accused, said that he was attempting to arouse his wife, who was staying with a neighbour., Mr R.undle said that the ease did not seem to he a very serious one.
