ANOTHER BRIDGE.
CROSSING THE HINDS RIVER. ADVOCACY TO THE COUNCIL. \ To urge better road access to tlie Staveley district and for the construction of a bridge, qver the Hinds River above Mayfield, Mr R- J- Nell approached' the Ashburton County Council this afternoon.. Mr Nell was met by the chairman (Mr S. P. Taylor) and Messrs J. Moore, W. G. Gallagher and J. Carr. It was pointed out to Mr Nell that such a bridge would cost £3OOO while there was a bridge about one and a-half miles down the river. The Main Highways’ Board would not consider such big expenditure. Mr Nell also advocated the purchase of more road machinery such as bulldozers. It was pointed out that the purchase of such heavy machinery meant big expenditure which would cause a great- strain on ratepayers. The chairman thanked Mr Nell for laying his views before the Council.
