SHEARING COURSE.
TRAINING ALMOST COMPLETED.
ABOUT 1600 SHEEP SHORN. Although the shearing class organised by the Ashburton Technical High School has not had a full four weeks’ training this year, the course has proved quite successful. It will conclude on Saturday. Since it opened early this month there have been no interruptions 'through wet weather, and the trainees have been kept going nearly every day. The instructor has been Mr Cliff Whiting, of Hinds. The Principal of the School (Mr W. Crawford) told the “Guardian” this morning that 12 students had received full instruction, and four part-time training. Altogether 1600 sheep supplied by about 10' farmers had been shorn. The pupils had had an opportunity of shearing in all parts of the County, the sheds ranging from Mayfield to Rakaia. Instruction has been given in both blade and machine work. Three students have already been promised sheds at the close of the course, and nine others are open for engagements. The minimum tally which they should be able to put up in a day is 60, and it is confidently stated that the best will be abki to do from 120 to 130 at the end of the season.
Farmers desirous of employing these trainees are advised to communicate with Mr Whiting.
