SCHOOL SPORTS.

COMPETITIONS AT THE FOOTHILLS The annual sports day of the Foothills School Sports’ Association, embracing the schools of Alford Forest, Bushside, iSpringburn, Mount Somers and Ashburton Forks, was held in Mr C. L. Austin’s paddock at Staveley on Friday. The weather was dull, hut fine and warm. There was a good attendance of parents and friends of the children, and, as is usual at this meeting, willing helpers were available to assist the committee in the running of the events.

The Association’s shield, for most points secured in championship events, was won by the combined sole-charge schools (Alford Forest, Bushside and Ashburton Forks), who ran up a total of 82 points, against Springburn’s 66 and Mount Somers, who had the smallest representation, 56.

Mr W. A. Brittenden (Ashburton Forks) received the shield on behalf of the combined schools from, the chairman of the Sports Committee (Mr S. Goldsmith), who congratulated the winners on their performance, the children as a whole on their conduct and sportsmanship during the day, and thanked those who had assisted in making the gathering a success.
