THE WEATHER.

A LITTLE RAIN THIS MORNING. At intervals throughout this moaning a. little light rain fell in Ashburton. The sky was grey and overcast and there was a decidedly chilly breeze from the south. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 611.8 and 42.7 degrees compared with 57.1 and 46.1 on Thursday. The barometer showed little variation to-day. The reading was 29.74 inches.

The Government Mettjorologist, at noon toMay, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General situation: An anticyclone is located to the north-east. Pressure is rising to the south behind a trough which is now approaching Cook Strait. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate to fresh hut decreasing south-westerly winds. The weather changeable and showery but improving from the south. Temperatures cool with frosts possible to-night. Seas moderate. ,
