WOMEN’S HOCKEY.
MATCHES IN ASHBURTON. The Ashburton Women’s Hockey Association competitions were continued on Saturday. Details of the play'were: SENIOR GRADE. Lowcliffo defeated Rakaia at Ashburton by 7 goals to 0. The scoters were J. Hawke G and J. Harris 1. Low cliff e “demonstrated a superior combination. Rakaia put up a good defence but there was no backing up of the wing players .who made several good openings. Misses M. Money and D. Fowke were the referees. By 4 goals to 2. Hinds defeated Ashburton in the match at Hinds. It was a good even match, played in a fine spirit. Lack of practice was evident, but Ashburton should develop into a good team. J. Jary and P. Brand played excellent games. Hinds had a number of junior players, and these T. Cliisnall played well. The scorers were, for Hinds J. Lowe (3) and N. Davison (1), and for Ashburton P. Brand and J. Jary (1 each). Mr W. T. Corbett was referee.
Tinwald piled up a score of 8 goals against Methven, who made 3 in the match played at Methven. For the winners, M. Donaldson scored 5 goals.
F. Gudsell 2 and SM. Henderson 1, while for Methven tho scorers were J. Williams 2 and G. Owen 1. The play was more even than the score indicates, hut the Methven goalie lackj ed her usual fire and let several soft goal shots succeed. Mr C. Bishop and Mrs McCormack were referees. JUNIOR GRADE. Methven heat Loweliffe by 5 goals to 0, the scoi’ers being J. Young and E. Brown 2 each and M. Owen 1. Miss D. Fowke was referee. Hinds 'defeated Ashburton by 1 goal (shot by I. Chisnall) to 0.. Mr W. T. Corbett was referee.
