MISTY RAIN AT NOON TO-DAY. Light misty rain commenced to fall in Ashburton shqrtly before mid-day to-day after overcast conditions in the morning. Later the rain cleared off, but the weather remained dull. Temperatures yesterday were much warmer than they have been for some time . A north-west wind being largely responsible. A frost of eight degrees was recorded in the, morning. ,

The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 60.7 and 35.9 degrees compared with 62.2 and 30.2 degrees on Saturday. The barometer fell to 29.68 inches this morning from 29.83 inches yesterday.

\ • RECORD RAINFALL AT ANAMA. The rainfall at “Laggan,” Anama, in May was 7.92 inches. The fall foi the same month last year was 1.51 inches. The total fall for this year to dato is 22.40 inches, while over the same period last year 7.65 inches were recorded. The fall last month was greater than the total recorded over the first five months of last year. This is the highest ever recorded at Anama Sjoi' May, the next heaviest being in 1923 when 7.78 inches fell. Over seven inches of rain fell in one week causing consiclei*able flooding, while some scouring took place especially on land worked up in readiness for for sowing. A considerable area was ready to plant in wheat when the heavy rain set in and this delayed the sowing. Later in the month a light northwest wind and bright sunshine dried the land out, and during the last few days of the month wheat sowing was in full swing. Feed is very scarce, but if mild conditions continue will help all stock ,and an early spring will also be beneficial.

TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — A low pressure trough extends northward from the South Island, while anti-cyclones are centred to the northeast and over Victoria respectively. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate winds from between northwesterly and south-westerly. Some isolated showers possible;, but weather mainly fair to cloudy. Temperatures moderate to mild. Seas slight to moderate.
