METHVEN WINS JUNIOR GRADE. The most important match in MidCanterbury cricket on Saturday, was the junior grade fixture between Methven and Lauriston, on which tho winning of the championship depended, as the two teams occupied the leading positions in the competition. The game was one of low scores, Lauriston making 69 and 70 for the loss of seven, wickets, and IMethven 121 in their first strike, so giving them a victory on the first innings. The only other junior match played, resulted in a win for Timvald over High School, E. Bell (Tinwald) performing outstandingly to take five wickets for 1 run. Junior cricket is now concluded. Tho attraction in senior cricket was an evenly fought match between Technical and a team selected from other clubs, ending in favour of the latter. For the combined team, R. Biggar made the highest score of the day, 88, and H. E. Cook made a good 45. The best bowling figures were returned by R. Biggar, S. Duncan and M. Wall.

SENIOR GRADE. TECHNICAL v. THE! REST. A partnership between H. E. Cook and R. W. Biggar which added 136 runs to the total was tho feature of the match between Technical, the winner of the senior competition, and The Rest, Cook played a very attractive innings and Biggar, though he received less of the howling, gave a great display of hitting. He ran up 88 in about half an hour.Technical batted first on a fast wicket, and lost its early wickets cheaply. A. [McCormick enhanced his reputation of being one of the county’s best batsmen by scoring a well-produced 21. N. Jones batted patiently for 28, then he was run out. The partnership of the innings was for the last wicket, when F. Horgan and F Burton added 41 to the total. Horgan finished with 43, including three sixes and three, fours. Biggar took three wickets for 19 and S. Duncan four for 30. Tho Rest also began badly, four being down, for 16, and six for 44. It was then that ! Cook and Biggar became associated, and put the issue beyond doubt. Biggar hit 10 fours and five sixes' in his 88. M. Wall was the* best Technical bowler, finishing with five wickets for 48. Tinwald defeated High School by 22 runs on Saturday in a match played at High School. Batting first Tinwald made 33, G. Campbell 15, being the only batsmen to reach double figures. High School replied with 41, N. Hosking 17, and W: Thomas 14. In their second strike Tinwald compiled 85, the best scores being made by R. Pearce 28, and E. Bell 21. High School were unable to make the runs necessary for a win in their second innings, scoring only 44. T. Betts 16, and N. Hosking 12, made the greater part of this total. Bowling for Tinwald E. Bell performed extremely well, taking five wickets for one run and seven for 32, M. Merrin took four for 12 and two for 11. For School W. Thomas and N. Hosking bowled consistently taking six for ten and four for 42, and two for eleven and four for 41 respectively.

SYDENHAM WINS CHAMPIONSHIP CHRISTCHURCH, March 17. Tho Canterbury Cricket Association’s season was concluded to-day in fine weather and on good wickets, but a strong wind helped bowlers to swing the ball. Sydenham won the championship by defeating St. Albans in the first innings, finishing . five points ahead of Old Boys. Scores:— Sydenliaxr. 291 (Walsh 66, Gasson 53, Appleton 52, Burtt four for 49, Mulcock three for 92) defeated St. Albans 520 for eight wickets (declared) by 41 runs on the first innings. East Christchurch 329 for eight wickets (declared) defeated West Christchurch 256 (Donnelly 117, Rumbold 36 not out, Davis four for 69, Kennedy two for 16) by 73 runs on the first innings. • Old Boys 145 for seven wickets (declared) and 72 for two, beat Riecarton 102 and 110 (Roberts 37, Graham seven for 28, Escott two for 32) by eight wickets. Old Collegians 322 and 120 for four (Walter 52, Shand two for 14, Kerr two for 29) beat Lancaster (Mcßae 89, Kerr 32 not out, Lester four for 48, Alpers three for 68) by 101 runs on tho first innings.
