PETROL IN AUSTRALIA. RISE OF SIXPENCE A GALLON. '
(Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The. .retail price of petrol will be probably raised by sixpence a gallon shortly. The increase will be made up of duty threepence, oil companies’ portion twopence and retailers’ share one penny a gallon. Such a rise would affect consumption to such an extent that rationing of petrol would not he necessary. The increase will assist the Commonwealth Government to finance its huge defence expenditure.
