MEN’S HOCKEY.
WIN FOR ASHBURTON. CLOSE GAME AGAINST N. OTAGO. At no stage of the match between the Ashburton and North Otago men’s representative hockey teams at Ashburton on Saturday was there more than one goal margin in the scores. Ashburton won by five points to four. Tho match was exciting throughout. Three times North Otago drew level with Ashburton, and it was only in the last few minutes did H. A. Barnett shoot the goal that won the game for Ashburton. Barnett was the outstanding player and scored three of Ashburton’s goals. For the visitors; V. Hore played an outstanding game at centre-half, the North Otago goalkeeper played a good game. THE JUNIOR REP. MATCH. Junior representative teams selected hv the Ashburton Sub-Association met Canterbury primary school teams at Ashburton and won both fixtures. Tho Ashburton A team boat Canterbury A by three goals to one in a very even game. Some excellent hockey was seen on both sides. The B teams’ match was more one-sided, Ashburton winning by nine goals to two. Umpires were Messrs E. L. Tinker, F. S. Kiddey (A match) and H. S. Cordery and C. Cornish (B match).
