STATISTICS FOR THE MONTH. REPORTS BY THE OFFICERS, LODGE AGREEMENT CONTINUED. The Ashburton Hospital Board met this morning, when there were present Messrs AV. G. Gallagher (chairman), F. Frampton, AV. Bryant, Raymond Oakley, C. A, Campion, AV, H. Wilkinson, 11. E. Jessup and Dr. J. Russell AVells. The chairman reported as follows:—Hospital statistics for the month of February, 1939:—Medical Superintendent: Patients remaining January 31, 1939, 36 males, 13 females, total 49; patients admitted February 1 to 28, 49, 31, 80; total treated, 85, 44, 129; patients discharged February 1 to 28, 49, 22, 71; patients died February 1 to 28, 4, —, 4; remaining, February 28, 32, 22, 54. Number of outpatient consultations 278, outpatient treatments 139, X-Ray examinations, inpatients 58 outpatients 37, Laboratory reports, inpatients 45, outpatients 5, massage treatments, inpatients 55, outpatients 124, diathermy treatments, inpatients 32, outpatients 59, plaster operations, inpatients 2, outpatients 1. operations performed in February 48. “Matron’s report: Nurse Brittenden left the staff on February 28. Sister Dell, who Avas relieving for holidays, also left on February 28. Misses Craig, Johnstone and Thomas commenced preliminary training on M'arch 1. Malvern Home report: There were 12 patients admitted, 16 discharged and 8 remaining for the month of February. Nurse P. AA r ilson is the relieving nurse. “Engineer’s report: During the month of February 21,860 pieces were laundered. The result of alterations to the steam and hot water services is now being shown by the coal consumption, the daily •average for February being 13Jcwt. of coal per day as compared with 24cwt. for the same month last year. “Secretary and Treasurer’s report: Finance: The following is a statement, of receipts and payments for February, 1938 :—Receipts. Balance Jan. 31 £B3l 2s, patients foes paid £393 7s, levies maintenance £1295 9s 4d, • subsidies maintenance £707 19s Id, National Provident Fund refunds, etc., £93 10s 2d, sundries £3 7s 3d; total, £3324 14s lOd. Payments: Maintenance hospitals £1763 5s Bd, other Boards £143 14s 6d, administration £l4B 6s 10d, capital expenditure . £666 19s sd, outdoor relief £9 ss, sundries £29 10s 4d, balance £563 13s. On the" recommendation of the Hospital Committee,. reported iby Dr. AVells (chairman), the tenders of the following were accepted: Messrs Clark and Timms (meat), Jordan and Sons (bread), Baker Bros., Shaw and King (interments), John Orr and Co (groceries). The Ashburton United Friendly Societies wrote'requesting that the agreement with ■ the Board covering treatment of lodge members at the Hospital should he carried on pending receipt of information as to the operations of the Social Security. Act. The request was agreed to.
