PIPE BAND CONTEST.
TIMARU WINS A GRADE. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH. March 12. The Dominion Pipe Band Contest was decided during the week-end. Timaru Highland Avon the A Grade championship and the Manawatu Scottish Society’s Band the R Grade. Thirteen bands competed, and features of the contest Avas the street march, Avhich Avas Avatched by a. large croAvd on Saturday, and the Drum-Majors display at the ShoAvgrounds to-day, the latter being most impressive and attracting 18,000 spectators. The placiugs in the individual events Avere : A. GRADE. Quickstep—Timaru 1, Ruahine 2, City of Christchurch 3. Own Selection—City of Christchurch 1, Ruahina 2, Timaru 3. ' Drum-Majors’ Display—Ruahine •1, Timaru 2, City of Christchurch 3. B GRADE. Quickstep—Manawatu 1 Canterbury Caledonian 2, Gore 3. Oavu Selection— Manawatu 1,, Gore 2, Temuka 3. Drum-Majors’ Display Manawatu 1, Gore 2. Street March, Both Grades. % Wanganui 1, Timaru 2, Ruahine 3.
