WHITE PINE FOR AUSTRALIA. THREE YEARS’ AGREEMENT. (Per Press Association \ WELLINGTON, Thisc Day. Consent to the export of 17,000,000 feet of white pine timber over a threeyear period is to be given by the New Zealand authorities in the event of approval by the Australian Tariff Board. The issues involved in the proposals were explained by the Commissioner of State Forests (the. Hon. F. Langstone) in the course of an interview. The Minister stated that some weeks ago a delegation from the Saw millers’ Federation visited Australia with a view to encouraging the export of timber from New Zealand to Australia. The delegation ascertained that there was a demand for New Zealand white pine if the people in Australia could be given some guarantee of supplies over a period. At thq,present time ,said the Minister, there were some 16,000,000 feet of white pine in the yards of various butter-box factories iti New Zealand. There were also 400,000 boxes in stores at Frankton and Feilding. He had ascertained they could supply the Australian market with 17,000,000. feet of white pine over a three-year period—--7,000,000 in the first and 5,000,000 in each of the other two years..

Mr Langstt-one added thaC apart from the present negotiations he had agreed to allow 5,000,000 feet of white pine to bo exported under licence this year because Now Zealand had more stocks on hand than it required.
