THE MID-CANTERBURY GUILD. HOUSING CONDITIONS. A general meeting of the Mid-Can-terbury branch of the New Zealand Men Teachers’ Guild was held in the Borough, Council, when Mr M. J. Leith presided over a, very fair attendance. The secretary (M)r W. Hunter) leported the transfer of one member to the North Canterbury branch,. Two new members were accepted. Considerable discussion took place on the question of the registration of the National Executive and of the various branches, and it was decided that this branch take no further action.

The subject of housing was also thoroughly discussed. In view of the exhaustive report prepared this year by the Central Executive in Timaru, it was resolved to stress again the question of the size of houses being built as teachers’ residences, as there are known examples in the County where rooms are very small, and where bedroom accommodation is altogether inadequate. It was recommended that standard plans )>e obtained by Education Boards and approved both by the New Zealand Educational Institute and the New Zealand Men Teachers' Guild. The secretary was .instructed to send a copy of the housing report to Mr A. N. Grigg, M.P. It was resolved that a letter be written to Mr H. E. Herring, expressing appreciation of his services to education during his term as M.P. for Mid-Canterburv. *
