IMPORTED RAM.
REACHES ASHBURTON TO-DAY. ACQUIRED BY MR A. BENNETT. A specially selected English Leicester Stud ram with a. very interesting pedigree arrived in Ashburton this afternoon from England, where it was purchased, by Mr A. Bennett, oi Riverside. The animal was taken from the flock of Mr R. J. W. Stock,, of Duffielcl, England, who is one of the oldest breeders of English Leicesters in the Old Country, where he is regarded as one of the most outstanding flock masters. Mr Bennett has shown considerable enterprise in bringing such a valuable animal to New Zealand, as he appreciates the fact that unless the best blood is available flocks must suffer in quality, and from the point of view of the biieedqr himself the ram is an acquisition. It was through the English Leicester that New Zealand made its name on the export market in the first instance, the fame of Canterbury lamb being built up on the breed. The purchase of the ram was made through the stock department of Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd.
