COMPETITIONS CONTINUED. MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The Ashburton County Cricket Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday in fine weather. There were not many high scores in the senior matches, Dave McKay batting for Fairfield against Public Works Irrigation topping the list with 75 runs. Centuries wore gained by. two junior grade players, H. Adams (Lauriston), who made 140 against High School, and K. Kenny (Technical Old Boys), who knocked up an excellent tally of 110 not out in the match against Coldstream. Both these players were also successful with the ball, Adams taking seven wickets for 13 runs, and Kenny six for 26. A. Kelly, playing for Old Boys against Tinwald, gave a remarkable bowling performance, his final figures being six wickets for 5 runs. The position of teams in the senior competition is: —

DUNEDIN, October 30. Steady rain caused the abandonment of the first series of grade championship cricket matches after barely an hour’s play on the second day. Albion was the only team to score a win, replying to the 154 of Carisbrook B with 1.60 for seven (Goding 78 not out, Bell three for 17). Old Boys 230, drew with Carisbrook 114 for eight (Groves five for 26). Grange 367 drew with Kaikorai 29 for one. Dunedin, 166, drew with University, 117 for eight.

MATCHES IX CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, October 28. The second round of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions was completed to-day in fine weather. The wickets were slightly affected by the rain during the week and favoured the spin bowlers. Lancaster Park won outright by dismissing West Christchurch twice in the afternoon, the last man being dismissed with the last ball of the day. Lancaster Park 212 (Donnelly six for 54) beat West Christchurch 50 (Read five for 12, Bellamy five for 36) and 125 (Bellamy four for 53, Read three for 17) by an innings and 37 runs.

East Christchurch 198 (Roberts eight for 58) and 137 for four (Kinvig 90), beat Riccartqn 137 (Roberts 56; Davis six for 31) by 61 runs on the first innings. Old Boys 233 for eight (Page 80, Hadleo 29; Mulcock five for 73) beat St. Albans 225 (Webb 44 not out; Cook five for 30, Escott four for 58), by two wickets. Sydenham 206 (Oliver 75, Butterfield 49; Lester four for 44) beat Old Collegians 127 (Hamilton 38; Newton five for 55) by 79 runs on the first innings. MATCHES AT TIMARU. TIMARIT, This Day. Senior cricket in South Canterbury began on Saturday in fine weather, and except at Geraldine, on wickets that favoured the batsmen. The surprise of the day was the dismissal of last year’s champion team, Old Boys, for 31 runs by Geraldine, who then made 93. In their second innings Old Boys had reached 58 for the loss of only two wickets at stumps. For Geraldine, F. Stock took six for 6, E. Scott one for two, j. E. Stack two for 3, Mayston one for 5. For Old Bovs, Earwaker took five for 25, Thompson two for 4. Playing Temuka, at Temuka, Timaru made 151, R. Wilson making a fine 60, and they dismissed Temuka. for 50, when bad light stopped play for the day. Bowling for Temuka, Reynolds took three fqr 29, Johnson four for 48. For Timarp, Purcell took three for 25, Smith six for 20.

At the Rectory, Higli School began well with a score of 195, D. G. Watt making 57 and McLeod 48. In reply, Star has lost six for 55. For Star, Wolford took seven for 49, and for High School Enling three for 33.
